Bali Tech Week convenes on the beachfront in Sanur, at the largest convention venue in Denpasar. Ten anchor events, one week, one site — with the Indian Ocean on the other side of the glass. Fly in, clear immigration, and be at the venue in half an hour.

The building that opened Bali to the world

The convention center sits alongside Bali Beach Hotel — the ten-storey landmark commissioned under President Soekarno and opened in 1966 as the island's first international hotel. For decades it was where the world first met Bali. It was restored and reopened in 2024, together with the five-star Meru Sanur, as part of The Sanur, a 42-hectare special economic zone.

There is a certain symmetry in holding this week here. Sixty years ago this address announced that Bali was open to the world. In October 2026 it hosts the week where Indonesia's digital economy makes the same argument for itself.

Getting here

Sanur is on Bali's east coast, roughly 30 minutes from the international airport.

From the airport

I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is roughly 13 km away, about 30 minutes by car via the Bali Mandara toll road outside peak hours. DPS is served by direct flights from major hubs across Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

Ground transport

Ride-hailing — Grab and Gojek both operate island-wide and are the simplest way to move around. Download and set up before you fly.
Airport transfer — Metered taxis and pre-booked cars are available at the arrivals hall. Agree the fare or use a metered service.
On foot — Sanur is flat and walkable. Most hotels in the area are within 10–20 minutes of the venue.

Stay on site, or a short walk away

Two hotels sit directly on the venue grounds: The Meru Sanur, a 456-room five-star property, and Bali Beach Hotel, The Heritage Collection, the restored 1966 landmark with sea-facing rooms. Both put you a few minutes' walk from the first session of the day.

Why Sanur

Sanur is Bali's east-facing coast, and the calmest of the island's established areas. A five-kilometre beachfront path runs the length of it, past warungs and coffee shops, and the sea here is flat and shallow — this is where the sun rises, not where it sets.

It is a deliberate choice of base. Sanur is quiet enough to get work done, close enough to Denpasar to be practical, and positioned so that the rest of the island stays within reach: Ubud is about an hour inland, the Bukit peninsula and Uluwatu about an hour south, and fast boats to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan leave from Sanur's own harbour, fifteen minutes from the venue.

What international delegates should know

Practical essentials to make the week smooth from arrival to departure.

Visa

Most nationalities can enter Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival, valid 30 days and extendable once. Apply online in advance as an e-VOA to skip the payment queue at the airport, or purchase on arrival at DPS. A business visa may be more appropriate depending on your activities. Confirm eligibility and the current fee on the official immigration site: imigrasi.go.id. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from arrival.

On arrival

All arrivals complete Indonesia's electronic customs declaration — do it online before you land and keep the QR code on your phone. A tourist levy applies to international arrivals into Bali and can be paid online in advance.

Money

The currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Cards are accepted at hotels, the venue and most restaurants; QRIS, Indonesia's national QR payment standard, is accepted almost everywhere and now supports several foreign wallets. Keep some cash for warungs, markets and drivers. Use ATMs attached to banks or hotels.

Connectivity

Buy an eSIM before departure or a local SIM on arrival. Telkomsel and XL have the widest coverage. Fixed and mobile internet across Sanur is reliable; venue Wi-Fi is provided throughout the week.

Weather and what to wear

October is the end of Bali's dry season, with daytime highs around 30–32°C, warm evenings and the chance of a short afternoon shower. Dress code is tropical business casual — linen, light fabrics, comfortable shoes. Halls are strongly air conditioned, so bring a layer for long sessions.

A note on etiquette

You will see small woven offerings, canang sari, placed on pavements and doorsteps each morning. Step around them rather than over them. If you visit a temple, cover shoulders and knees — a sarong is usually provided at the entrance.
